Seeing the Mountain, Slowly is a journey through landscape and mindscape. From appearance to dissolution, Chiu traces his movements and perceptions to construct an “imaginal geography” suspended between reality and inner vision. The shifting perspectives become temporal traces—an appendix-like return to the original point of memory.
The title derives from the Zen phrase “See the mountain as mountain, not mountain, yet mountain again,” reflecting the artist’s layered understanding of phenomenon, illusion, and reality. “Not in haste” suggests a temporal attitude: resisting arrival, dwelling instead within the rhythm between motion and pause, allowing vision to unfold in slowness.
Rooted in the notion of Genius Loci, the spirit of place, and echoing Gaston Bachelard’s Poetics of Space, Chiu transforms cities, mountains, and architectural symbols into layered mindscapes—where memory, time, and existence converge.
In this unhurried journey, landscape becomes an echo of the mind, and the moment of “seeing the mountain” turns into the most tender breath shared between self and world.
